You approach curiously, having wondrous expectations regarding this bold new factory. Stepping inside, your eyes widen as the entire factory literally plays out all around you. You’ve entered into a one-of-a-kind production and administrative facility. You’ve entered into LINAK’s new DESKLINE® factory.
Inspired by the progressive ideas of Managing Director and owner Bent Jensen, the DESKLINE factory lies adjacent to LINAK’s otherwise traditional oblong facilities on the isle of Als in southern Denmark. The building, which is much more than a simple assembly plant, represents a courageous step within industrial production. Everyone - hourly as well as salaried workers - truly works in the same sphere.
“We believe that management should never distance themselves from the staff. Jobwise, we’re all in the same boat, so why shouldn’t we be located physically near each other?” asks Divisional Manager John Frost. |

Production of actuators for use in sit/stand desks is nonetheless the focus of this circular construction. The majority of the almost 10,000 square metres of floor space is dedicated to this production, but the old-fashioned assembly line is nowhere to be seen. No straight-backed chairs or inflexible assembly benches in sight, either.
“We wanted to come all the way round the entire structure of the DESKLINE division when we designed the factory. Ergonomics and new ways of working were two of our guiding stars. We looked to improve as much of the work environment in the division as possible,” Frost enthusiastically explains.

Amongst the staff, assembler Henning Thiesen reports his satisfaction with the new premises, citing the physical as well as social aspects of the new constellation as two of the elements he enjoys the most.
“Previously, I was employed in the Milling department. In comparison, it is much less noisy here, and we have a great view all the way round. I asked to be transferred, as I suffer from tinnitus, and it was just too loud in Milling. I really like working in a group here as well,” he states. |
